At the College of Arts at Al-Qadisiyah University, I discussed a master’s thesis entitled (The Impact of Authority and Its Culture on the Development of Poetry in the Umayyad Era) by the student Alia Habib Hadi Al-Shammari and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Yasser Ali Abdel Khaledi. The study aimed to highlight the impact of this authority and rulers on poetry and poets and the renewal of old purposes or the creation of poetic purposes that did not exist.

The study came out with a set of results, including that the rulers of the Umayyad tribe took poetry as a means to strengthen the bonds of their rule, so they supported the poets and showered them with gifts. The desire of the caliphs to praise them for certain qualities prompted the poets to create new poetic images that were unusual in Arabic poetry. Poetry represented the main culture of the era for the rulers and society, and the gifts and giving Much of the ruling power of poets made them tend to lie, hypocrisy,
and assign unreal qualities to the caliphs
