I researched a master’s thesis at the College of Arts at Al-Qadisiyah University, entitled (Residential employment in the city of Al-Hamzah Al-Sharqi and its development potential) by the student Hassan Raheef Amishi and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Hassoun Abboud Daboun. The study aimed to reveal the spatial relationships or spatial interaction that drove the development of the residential function in the study area, starting from the inception of the city and its current residential structure and what it will become in 2030, dealing with the urban, social and economic characteristics of the residential and population groups within the residential neighborhoods, which amounted to (11 residential neighborhoods) and included Its residential neighborhoods (6,811 housing units) for the year 2020
The study reached the most important results, which were that the city possessed natural characteristics that enhanced the development of its residential and economic reality by exploiting the agricultural sector as it is part of the alluvial plain. This was helped by the Hamza River, which passes through the study area, in addition to the industrial sector represented by the manufacture of bricks. The city is surrounded by open spaces. Which is suitable for residential expansion towards the most interactive urban centers represented by the city of Diwaniyah, at a distance of (28 km), and the population size is increasing and is expected to reach (113,559 people) in the year 2030.
This reinforces the problems of the housing reality, including the worsening housing deficit, which reached (7,374 housing units) for the year 2030, accompanied by a decrease in the efficiency of services provided without local indicators such as water and electricity services, and educational and health services. The study showed that the city needs an area (96,775 hectares) for the purpose of expansion. the future
